YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES

Adventure in Citizenship

Over four days in Ottawa, participants experience tours, lectures, discussions and social events designed to enhance understanding and appreciation of Canadian citizenship. They will attend meetings with political leaders and senior officials and learn about the workings of our democratic institutions. Participants learn to appreciate the diversity of Canada as well as the privileges and responsibilities of Canadian citizenship, including attendance at a Canadian Citizenship ceremony.
 
All costs are paid by Rotary; including a return train trip to Ottawa and accommodation with a Rotary family in the Ottawa area.
 
•  Program is hosted annually in late April or early May 
•  One position is available (other area clubs may have additional openings)
•  Applicants must be 16-18 years of age
•  Applications are due in February 

 
Adventure in History

Over three days in Kingston, participants experience the well established history of Kingston and the surrounding area. Participants will visit the Kingston Penitentiary and learn about Canadian justice system.
 
All costs are paid by Rotary; including a return train trip to Kingston and accommodation with a Rotary family in the Kingston area.
 
•  Program is hosted annually in September 
•  One position available (other area clubs may have additional openings)
•  Applicants must be 14-18 years of age and must have completed Grade 10 History
•  Applications due in July
Rotary Youth Leadership Award
 
Participants will attend a three day weekend in April at the YMCA Camp Geneva in Orillia. Leadership skills will be developed through fun challenges involving team work and problem solving. Youth will develop a better understanding of themselves through these interactive sessions. Recreational programs such as campfires and a coffee house add to the fun.
 
All costs are paid by Rotary, including transportation, accommodation, all meals, indoor & outdoor activities, T-shirt, & all workshop materials.

Interact Club of Barrie

Interact is a division of Rotary and is designed to help youth aged 12-18:
•  Take action to make a difference in their community
•  Discover new cultures and promote international understanding
•  Develop leadership skills and network with community leaders
•  Have fun and make new friends from around the world
•  Discover more opportunities to connect with Rotary Clubs

Youth Exchange
 
Departing in August and returning in July, participants will live with 4 different host families in another country over the course of the year. They will experience a new culture, learn a new language and make friendships to last a lifetime. Participants will attend high school in the host country with the understanding that they may not get high school credits for courses taken. Colleges often recognize the value of exchange programs, with credit for language ability and greater acceptance rates. 
 
Participant's family must cover the costs for flights and living expenses, estimated at $9,000 for the year of the program.
